User Experience at Google in NYC: Creating Apps for Mobile Devices
Description
Are you curious to know how Google makes its products & services so compelling and useful?
If so, come hear Leland Rechis, from Google’s user experience research practice in NYC, talk about how they put user feedback to work to create stellar user experiences. He'll talk about:
* How Google's designer/researcher partnership process works,
* How Google services, like Gmail, Google Search, and Google Maps, have been optimized for mobile phones
* How they design for global use, with a focus on localization challenges that have arisen during recent usability research in Germany and Japan.

Leland Rechis, User Experience Designer, Google
Leland focuses primarily on Mobile Search, which has just launched a new user experience. Other Google products for which Leland has done design work include the releaunch of Blogger and launch of Google transit.
Prior to Google, Leland has designed for Yahoo! HotJobs, BarnesandNoble.com, Razorfish and Organic.
A born and bred New Yorker, Leland dealt with a complete lack of good bagels and lox while living in San Francisco for a number of years.

representative will be on hand to greet you, provide you with a
building badge, and direct you to the 4th floor.
To get to Google NY, take the A/C/E or L subway to 14th Street,
and exit near the intersection of W 14th Street and Eighth Avenue, head
west on 14th Street towards Hudson Street, and make a right on Ninth
Ave. Alternatively, the 1/2/3 subway lines and
M11, M14, and M20 buses service the surrounding area. If you are
driving, the closest parking lot is located in the building, accessible
from 15th or 16th Street.

Tickets are refundable, exchangable and transferable as follows:
Refund policy: Request a refund for any reason within 45 days of your ticket purchase by contacting rsvp@nycupa.org .
Exchange policy: Bring your receipt to another NYC UPA event for credit towards that event's cost. You must pre-register for that event. The event must be held within one year after the event you are exchanging the ticket for. (We typically have 9 events a year.)
Transfer policy: Notify us of the person’s name you are transferring your ticket to by noon on the day before the event at rsvp@nycupa.org (so we can leave their name with security). The person will need a copy of your receipt to show at the door.
Membership offer: This event is part of our spring membership drive. For this event only you can optionally purchase along with your ticket a one year membership to NYC UPA for $10, a discount off the usual $15 price. Everyone is eligible for the membership special: new members, lapsed members, current members. Current members will have their memberships extended by one year.
(Most of our events have a $10 discount for members, so membership would effectively pay for itself at the next event you attend.)
